Our Strategy For Helium Exploration and Development

North American Helium’s strategy is to create value through a science-first exploration process, and add value through vertical integration into the global helium market.

Exploration is the foundation of our strategy and we have the skills, expertise and land rights to succeed. North American Helium is working hard to develop major new helium reserves with favorable economics. Our approach starts with a study of the full-cycle economics of helium extraction in a given area, including infrastructure and logistical costs. Favorable economic evaluation is followed by an exhaustive “no stone unturned” approach to exploration that leverages a tremendous amount of existing data and the expertise of a number of outside consultants in the exploration sciences and related fields.

Differentiated Resource

Historically, helium has been produced as a by-product of conventional natural gas production and C02 projects for enhanced oil recovery. North American Helium differentiates itself by targeting underground reservoirs of helium-bearing gas that do not contain significant amounts of methane or CO2. While we are able to utilize the same equipment used to drill for natural gas, our projects have a significantly reduced capital cost compared to natural gas projects because there is no need for expensive pipelines to bring our product to market. This lessens our environmental footprint, offers greater flexibility to pursue exploration opportunities, improves our project economics and shortens our timelines for delivering product to market, as compared to other large-scale helium projects.

Large, Attractive Land Position

North American Helium has spent the last four years assembling a significant package of helium leases and exploration permits covering large seismically-defined structures in our core operating area. Our land strategy is data-driven, utilizing tens of thousands of existing well files and a tremendous wealth of seismic data assembled by previous oil and gas exploration efforts in our core area. The jurisdiction where we currently focus, the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, is attractive, low-risk and development friendly.

Most Active Operator

North American Helium adds value for our investors as well as potential partners through vertical integration and through our focus on being a reliable counterparty. Through our network of consultants and firms we work with, we make the most informed technology and logistical choices to maximize our utility within existing helium supply chains and market structures. Through our marketing arm, North American Helium owns crude helium in storage, which it refines and sells as both high-purity pressurized gas and as liquid helium through partners.

On the financing, refining, marketing side of the business, North American Helium adds value through vertical integration into the global helium market.  This value is created for our investors, and also our potential customers and partners. We make the most informed technology and logistical choices to maximize our utility within existing helium supply chains and market structures. Through our marketing arm, North American Helium owns crude helium in storage, which it refines and sells as both high-purity pressurized gas and as liquid helium through partners.

Together, our science-first exploration process and our understanding of the global helium market create a competitive advantage for North American Helium and contributes to the long-term success of the helium production industry in Western Canada.

Well-capitalized

North American Helium has significant backing from large institutional investors, which allows us to move quickly to develop new helium projects that are needed by the industrial gas industry, without relying on funding from other industry participants.

Focused on Commercialization

We have in-house expertise in the design, construction and operations of gas plants, as well as procurement and operations of helium-specific purification and liquefaction equipment. For the last two years, North American Helium has been working with multiple firms that design, manufacture, and construct helium plants, to best tailor this technology to the climate and gas composition found in our operating territory.

Active in Helium Market

North American Helium owns crude helium in storage, which it refines and sells through multiple industry partners. This is a profitable and growing business segment that also allows our company to forge important relationships with larger industry players and gather valuable market intelligence. These relationships are vital to understanding helium market developments and inform longer-term operational planning.
